This perennial plant is native to California foothills and coastal areas around the state. It is known for its bright red fuchsia-like flowers which often bloom later in the season than other natives, giving hummingbirds important off-season nectar. It is an easy to grow plant and relatively hardy. In hotter areas, the plants should be given occasional water throughout the summer.
