This silver, grey shrub which grows native from Northern california all the way to baja. It was used by the native americans as a smudge plant like white sage (salvia apiana). It was also thought to be used on wounds as a pain remedy and disinfectant. This particular variety is native to the Los Padres National Forest. 



Growth Form/Defining Characteristics:  Grey/Silver Shrub, 1-5’ high, 4-7’ wide. 

Light: Full sun 

Water: Moderate water, drought tolerant once established 

Soil: Well drained loam, Standard potting mix, Tolerant to a variety of low quality soil types but must be fed and watered well in the first year. 

Hardiness (Sunset And/or USDA Zones): Sunset zones 7-9, 14-24. USDA Zones 7-10. 

Type: Perennial , evergreen. Becomes deciduous in serious drought.
