Clary Sage - Salvia sclarea
This plant is often grown and harvested for its oil which has a clean refreshing sent and many folk medicinal uses. It also has an attractive display of purple/pink flowers making it a choice ornamental filler.
Being native to the Mediterranean basin, it does well in other Mediterranean climates worldwide such as California or South Africa. It is a biennial meaning it will stay vegetative in its first year and flower in its second. After flowering, the plant will release a multitude of seeds and then finish its life cycle. The seeds will readily repropagate, but can also be collected and hand germinated for a better germination rate.
