An essential part of European cuisine, thyme is wonderfully versatile, enhancing everything from breads, vinegars, and butters, to fish, egg dishes, a variety of meats, soups, and vegetable dishes. Originally Native to the Italian peninsula, Thymus vulgaris is the most widespread of the Thyme varieties. It has been in use since ancient times not only as a culinary herb, but also as a traditional remedy for many ailments such as cough, diabetes, for cold and chest infections; and in a syrup form for digestive upset.

If you experience harsh frost during winter, cover in a layer of mulch in the fall. Prune plant in the fall for best results. Harvest before flowering for best flavor.
